Spiritual teacher, Ram Dass once said that his guru Neem Karoli Baba(The Maharaji) emphasized one practice to his devotees: To “See EVERYONE as God.” It is a practice that opens my heart profoundly. For those resistant to theistic language this may be challenging.  For those open to it, this practice can be beautifully profound as it  viscerally  and emotionally connects you to the truth of humanity and the essence we ALL share.

If theistic language is troubling, humorously put into your mind while sitting in a cafe or walking around town, the image of everyone you see as looking exactly like you. It doesn’t matter if they are male or female, old or young, make everyone in your image.  When you look at the beautiful woman, put a wig on yourself.  When you see the baby laughing and waving it arms put your head on the babies body. When you see a man on the street rambling obscenities become him.  With humor, for a brief moment you end you minds separation between yourself and others…  Or maybe you didn’t but at least your enjoyed yourself and that is truly the point. Unless you are filled with self-loathing… That is for another time…
